A silent, roughly 80-second screen recording of ClearRead running on a real, cluttered news article; there's no audio track, dialogue, or narration to caption. Four things happen, in order:
- At 0:00, the page before ClearRead: dense paragraphs, small default text, and a busy layout with nowhere for the eyes to rest.
- About 20 seconds in, Reader Line switches on: a highlighted band appears and moves down the page, dimming everything except the line currently being read.
- About 40 seconds in, Focus Mode switches on: the surrounding page fades under a dark overlay, leaving only the paragraph being read at full brightness.
- About 1 minute in, a block of jargon-heavy text is run through the AI Simplifier and replaced, in place, with a shorter, plain-language version of the same information.

Common questions
Is ClearRead really free?
Yes. No ads, no paid version, no account, no card. Install it and every feature works straight away.
Which browsers does it work on?
Chrome, Edge, Brave, Opera and any other Chromium browser, all from the same Chrome Web Store page. Firefox and Safari are not supported yet.
Does it work on every website?
It works on most sites, and on PDFs you open in the browser. A few unusual pages need you to switch a tool on by hand, or press Alt+R to bring your last reading mode straight back.
Is my data private?
Almost everything (fonts, spacing, colours, Focus Mode, the reading line) runs inside your browser and never leaves your device. We do not track you. The one exception is the AI Simplifier: it sends the text you picked, and nothing else.
Can schools and special education teachers use ClearRead?
Yes. ClearRead is a free accessibility tool for classrooms, with no accounts for a school to manage. Teachers use it as a reading accommodation tool for ADHD and dyslexia, and as everyday reading support for neurodivergent students in inclusive education.
